Issued immediately after the Braves won the 1957 World Series, this store display was given to local bars, taverns, and beer depots. Due to their oversized presence, very few survived.
The image, taken by the professional staff of Ziekle Studios, depicts a bird’s eye view from press box. Directly seated below the image’s vantage point are three men, one with fedora, one with sun glasses, watching the game unfold. Judging by the posture of the player on the mound and the fact his glove is on his right hand, Warren Spahn is the starting pitcher. This would date the image to Game 1 or Game 4 of the series, both which Spahn recorded a victory.
From this vantage point, the green grass of County Stadium is perfectly contrasted by the red clay which forms the infield and pitcher’s mound. 50,000+ fans fill the green wooden bleacher seats of the stadium. Patriotic bunting, red, white and blue, drape on the lower grandstand and bleacher walls. At the bottom of the upper deck are slightly different colored buntings, decorating what would be the Milwaukee finest baseball moment.
Milwaukeeans’ will all recognize the Miller High Life clock and scoreboard. The light towers stand proudly above the right field bleachers and in the outfield. A perfect image of a perfect time.
Measuring 36”x44”, the colors of the photo remain vibrant, but there is damage to the upper left corner, left top border, and right top corner. Also some discoloration at the bottom right corner. The original oak frame remains in excellent condition. 78F0656
