Offered is a red and blue stitched A.J. Reach Official American League Ban Johnson baseball which was used during the New York Yankees 10-7 victory over the Washington Senators in the second game of a doubleheader on May 31, 1920 at the Polo Grounds. The individual who caught this foul tip carefully noted the circumstances under which they acquired their new souvenir with "Caught at Polo Grounds May 31st, 1920 Decoration Day Washington (7) vs Yankees (10) Foul Tip Into Grand Stand" neatly written on a side panel and extending over the "Official American League Baseball" stamping. While the original owner did not note the player who hit the foul tip some of the more notable names involved in that days games included Sam Rice, Braggo Roth, Joe Judge, Bucky Harris, Walter Johnson, Bob Meusel, Wally Pipp and Babe Ruth; among others. Scuffing and other wear indicative of use present. (61O0241)
