This New York Mets jersey comes from 1962 Nostalgia Game held on August 30, 1992 during the franchise's 30th anniversary season. Rawlings size 44 tag sewn to outside tail along with strip tag reading "1962 Nostalgia Game Aug. 30, 1992 Stephensen". Team name (Mets) and uniform number (51) sewn directly to jersey in blue on orange double tackle twill.
Player attribution is tricky as no player has ever played in the major leagues with the last name Stephensen. Additionally no Mets player or coach wore number 51 during the 1992 season, though coach Cookie Lavagetto did wear it during the 1962 season. John Stephenson was a member of the Mets from 1964-66 (though he never wore #51 during these seasons) and also managed in the Mets minor league system from 1995-2000 so it is possible he was involved in the ceremony in some capacity and his name was simply misspelled on the strip tag.
