This is a 2001 Gary Sheffield Rawlings Professional Model Game Used Bat. This bat dates to the 2001 season based on the year code present on the knob of the bat. This 170B model bat currently measures 34.5 inches in length and weighs 35.7 ounces.
This bat exhibits heavy use with ball marks present along the back and bottom of the barrel. Though their are ball marks there are no deeply embedded stitch marks, a trait you would expect to see on a slugger's bat such as Gary Sheffield. The knob and barrel end of the bat both have a blacked out area, which has had Sheffield's jersey number, 10, placed on top of it in silver marker indicating use by a different player, which coupled with the use traits makes sense. The exact player that used this bat is unclear, however, Sheffield's customary tape job is present on the knob of this bat, making the last of this bat likely by him.
Sheffield was one of the most recent members to the 500 Home Run Club, making his entrance into the club in 2009 with the New York Mets. MEARS Auction LOA
