Hall of Famer John Smoltz, the Atlanta Braves work horse, posted a 17-3 record with 173 strikeouts during the 1998 season to help the Atlanta Braves finish first in the division. This shirt was then gifted to Ken Griffey Sr. where it remained in his collection until 2004 where it was purchased directly by Troy R. Kinunen and collected at his Orlando, FL home. A dated letter from 7-25-04 accompanies this lot from Kinunen which was provided to the original owner.
The shirt was manufactured by Wilson, and has the “98” year tag sewn underneath. A size 48 flag tag is attached to the manufactures tag. “SMOLTZ” appears on a nameplate on reverse of shirt. “29” also appears on reveres in red on navy double tackle twill.
Shirts shows distinct moderate use, which is consistent with Atlanta Braves shirts from the era as the team sold multiple shirts to the general public. Smoltz signed the shirt on the reverse numeral. With the accompanying provenance, the shirt grades a MEARS A10.
