This is a 1986-89 Steve Carlton Louisville Slugger Professional Model Signed Bat. This bat dates to the 1986-89 period based on the Louisville Slugger centerbrand period. Louisville Slugger factory records indicate that Carlton ordered P89C, not P89 models such as this bat is, models during the 1986-89 period, but this bat is neither stamped as a P89C or does it have a cupped barrel end. That information combined with the lack of use and autograph along the barrel of the bat, this bat has been graded MEARS Authentic as a Baseball Promotions/Miscellaneous bat. This bat currently weighs 32.1 ounces and measures 35 inches in length.
This bat exhibits no game use, and very minimal overall wear with any wear coming from handling wear, etc. This bat has been autographed by Carlton in blue marker beneath the barrel signature.
Carlton was one of the most dominant left-handed pitchers during the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's. Carlton played the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies, winning a World Series with each. During his career, he won 4 National League Cy Young Awards, 1 Gold Glove Award, and 4 The Sporting News National League Pitcher of the Year Awards. He compiled more than 4,000 strikeouts during his career and compiled 329 wins while carrying a 3.22 career ERA.
This bat grades out at the MEARS Authentic grade. The bat comes with JSA Authentication, hologram #D82574, which attests to the authenticity of the autograph.
