At the end of the 1983 season, Paul Molitor had amassed 899 hits, and was scheduled to break 1,000 during the 1984 season. An elbow injury, which was almost career ending, limited Molitor to just 10 games during 1984. The Ignitor’s flame had burned out.
For Molitor game used bat collectors, this example is an important missing link for those trying to assemble bats that represent the entire career of Paul Molitor.
Measuring 34”, weighing 33.5 ounces, and manufactured with an all hickory finish, the H176 Louisville Slugger bat was ordered by Molitor only during the 1984 season. Although not his finest season, this is still a rare model bat.
Bat shows heavy use with numerous ball marks, stitch marks, bat rack marks, a light application of pine tar and deadwood with some separation on the reverse of the barrel. Handle remains uncracked.
Final Grade MEARS A8. A base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat matching factory records. 3 points for heavy game use.
