Offered for this lot is a rare, 1982 era Nolan Ryan Louisville Slugger game used bat. Bat is the model S44, and was first ordered by Ryan during the 1982 season. Measures 34” and weighing 30 ounces, this bat appears on Nolan Ryan’s 1982 personal bat records under the category of “baseball misc.”. Bats that are listed by Hillerich & Bradsby in the “baseball misc” category were done so due to a new order being placed by the player and the companies player liason, Rex Bradley, personally handled the order and logged it into the system. During 1982, this bat appeared in two seprate orders, (1) bat, and (24) bats ordered.
During 1982, Ryan batted in 35 games in 83 at bats, 10 hits, and tallied a .120 batting average.
Bat has Ryan’s “30” written on the knob in black market and the formation of the numbers is consistent with other document Ryan bats that have entered the hobby. The bat exhibits moderate wear on the barrel end, with a distinct ball mark below the facsimile barrel signature.
Final Grade (MEARS A9): A base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat being consistent with the weight, model, and length used by Ryan during the 1982 season, 2 points for moderate use, plus 1 for documented #30 on knob.
