1979 Nolan Ryan California Angels Autographed Game Worn Home Jersey (MEARS A10)
Nolan Ryan entered 1979 for his eighth and final season as a California Angel. We would move to the Astros for the 1980 campaign. During 1979, Ryan appeared in 34 games, compiled a 16-14 season. With 223 K’s, Ryan was selected to the All-Star team.
Style: White home knit pull over with blue/red/blue “v” neck and arm ribbing. Rounded tail. “ANGELS” & “30” appear on front with red on navy double tackle twill lettering. During the 1975-80 era, names were removed from the back of Angels home jerseys. During the 1979 season, the team switched from a thin numeral to a noticeably thicker version. With this being the thicker version, this shirt style was introduced during the 1979 season.
Supplier (WA Goodman & Sons): Per the MEARS Official Database, the style of Goodman & Sons tag was issued during the 1971-84 era. The most noticeable tag feature to support this dating is the phrase, “Wash in 120 F Water”. Per examples that have entered the hobby, Goodman is the correct supplier of 1979 Angels shirts, and the style of tag is correct for the era.

When 1979 Goodman & Sons shirt first entered the hobby, it was the view of the hobby that Wilson was the supplier of the Angles for the 1979 season. Numerous period images supported this. Recently, after nearly 15 years, new images emerged which show Ryan wearing Goodman shirts as early as 1979.
