When Murcer was dealt to the Cubs in 1977, he was the highest priced player to ever play on that team up to that time. Murcer, while not in the hall, is one of the most beloved players of that era as evidenced when he died in 2008. This bat is a killer example of one of his game used bats dating to that stint in Chicago. It is a signature model S2L that measures 35" and weighs 32.9 oz. On the knob in black marker is his uniform number 7 and S2L in faded black marker. A photograph taken from Getty images shows him with a similar (not same) bat with the 4.5" of padded handle tape and the model number as it is stretched across his neck. This bat has the tattered padded tape and shows deep ball and lace marks above the barrel markings. There is a closed 2" crack on back of the handle which is caked in vintage pine tar as well. Of the eight Murcer bats that we have done, this is the second highest graded example. Murcer grades an A9.5 with 5 base points, 3 use points, 1 point for vintage number on knob and 1 point for traits as per photograh with minus .5 for crack. Collection of MEARS staff.
