While serving as a backup for most of his catching career, Gene Oliver did have a career year in 1965 as he swatted a career-high 21 home runs and hit at a .270 clip. Worn during his most prolific offensive year, and the Braves final campaign in Milwaukee, is this Oliver flannel representation.
Each of the two-color tackle twill identifiers has puckered and shows extensive season-long wear. The left sleeve contains an original screaming Braves patch. Applied in the collar is a swatch which reads "Oliver 65 set 1" identifier.
The tail features a Wilson size "42" tag. According to Dave Grob, this tag was used circa 1957-66. Grob further states "This is nearly identical to a 1966 Gene Oliver Atlanta Braves home jersey that I have in my on hand exemplar library, other than year of issuance.
Although it was a bittersweet season for the local nine, nobody can peel away the pride generated by the Braves during their tenure in Brew City.
Graded a perfect A10.
