Jerseys from the Colt 45’s are among the most highly prized and sought after styles in the hobby.  Through a combination of aesthetics and rarity, they command a premium when they happen to come to auction.  Our data base records less than a half dozen legitimate examples of the home jerseys that feature the distinctive “Smokin Pistol” logo.  This same data base only contains 3 examples of the heavy wool jackets worn by the Colt 45s during the 1962-1964 period; one of this is currently part of the MEARS Museum collection.  Offered here is the only known surviving example of the lighter weight nylon jacket we have any record of.   There is no manufacturer’s label in the jacket, the only tagging is the size 50 flag tag sewn into the left interior pocket.  Overall condition is superior with nice even wear and minimal enamel loss to the snaps along the placket.   The jacket is completely original and unaltered, right down to the Texas state patch on the left sleeve.

Recent market pricing for vintage jackets is on the rise as collectors are realizing that jackets are in fact rarer than uniforms (produced in lesser quantity), take up no more room or space to display, and are often equally or more attractive than the contemporary uniforms.  This particular stunning example is certainly no exception and just screams 1960s Expansion Era Baseball…
