Advanced Milwaukee Braves collectors all know that a game worn batting helmet is by far the most difficult piece of game worn memorabilia from the team to collect. Bats, hats, and jerseys, although difficult, can be found. Game worn helmets, well, those are reserved for the most persistent of collectors and serve as a crown jewel. Our consignor recently discovered this helmet in an old Milwaukee neighborhood that once was the home of Milwaukee Braves players. Based on the style of the squat ''M" on front, this helmet dates to the 1960-1965 era. Although the manufacturer label is no longer present, the helmet is consistent with the ABC helmet company. Helmet has been reconditioned by the team, and is guaranteed to be 100% authentic and period. The original foam head padding is still intact. "29" appears in athletic tape on the under brim, and `again in a more faded application on the outer brim. All use is original to the helmet and from the 1960s. #29 was worn by Johnny DeMerit (1959-1961), Dennis Menke (1962), Hawk Taylor (1962-1963). LOA MEARS Auctions.
