For the collector looking to complete his Yogi Berra game worn ensemble or add a single, affordable game worn item, this lot offers a rare opportunity to add a hard to find item to the collection. A review of images of Yogi Berra throughout his career documented the fact he preferred this long sleeve undershirt to be worn in conjunction with his flannel baseball uniform.
Offered is the undershirt donned by Hall of Fame backstop Yogi Berra during his time with the New York Yankees in the mid-1950. An original, period Spalding tag is sewn in the collar while a "48" is factory stamped at the bottom of the three buttons leading up to the neck.
"Yogi" is written distinctively in black marker on the reverse. Sleeves have been trimmed, shortening their overall length. This may have been done at a later time. Shirt remains in remarkable game worn condition, exhibiting tremendous game wear.
The shirt was sourced by our consignor’s mother, who obtained it via auction that was held in conjunction with the Junior League of New York Televised Ball. This Yogi Berra game worn under shirt, 1955 Johnny Kucks Home Jersey, and 1957 Gil McDougal New York Yankees game worn pants were all donated directly by the New York Yankees to the Junior League Ball.
