This hat style was worn by the Orioles for only the first four seasons and the manufacture of this hat is a little known and seldom seen maker out of Detroit by the name of Lippman's. Given that this was not the usually found Wilson hats of the period, it is speculated that this hat dates to the first ever season in 1954 but this cannot be documented. The hat shows tremendous game wear with the leather liner still soft and supple and no player id or size noted. The hat is generally soiled and the bill is the older soft style. This is one very scarce hat from the earliest beginnings of the major league Orioles. 00188. Collection of MEARS staff.
