The 1950s epitomized the career of Mickey Mantle and the New York Yankees. During the era this bat was manufactured and factory records support this model (K55) being sent to Mantle, the Yankees won the pennant in 1953, 1955, and 1960. They were World Series Champions in 1956. It is also possible this model may have been carried over for use by Mantle during the magical 1956 Triple Crown season. MEARS has provided a professional evaluation and grading of this bat and determined the following:
Dating (1953-60): Per the MEARS centerbrand dating (1950-60), and the years Mantle ordered the K55 model at this length (35”), the bat was ordered in 1953, 1955, and finally in 1960.
Length (35”): Per Mickey Mantle’s personal H&B ordering records, he ordered this length (K55) model during the 1953, 1955, and 1960 seasons.
Weight (33.7): Currently weighing 33.7 ounces, this bat is within the acceptable range to have been ordered by Mantle during the 1953-60 era.
Model (K55): Per Mickey Mantle’s personal H&B bat records, he ordered the K55 model measuring 35” during 1953, 1955, and 1960.
Game Use: Bat exhibits heavy game use on both sides of the barrel, typical of a switch hitter. Stitch marks can also be found above and below the barrel. Handle remains uncracked.
Final Grade (MEARS A8): Base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat matching H&B factory records. 3 points for heavy game use (stitch/ball marks). Final grade, MEARS A8.
A very fine example of a game used bat from the peak of Mantle’s career.
