Featured in this lot of 26 photos is the Say Hey Kid, Willie Mays, at various points throughout his Hall of Fame career. Mays is pictured in this lot at the plate, in the whirlpool, outside his home, cutting cake, at the microphone and on the telephone along with a number of headshots. Measurements range from 5" x 6" to 8.5" x 11". Photos contain various handwritten notations, affixed cutlines and date & photographer stamps on their reverse. Boston Herald Archives Holograms. The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
