Offered for this lot is a very rare bat from the Duke of Flatbush. Quality Duke Snider bats are becoming increasingly rare. Measuring C117L, this model ordered and used by Snider on many occasions during the 1950-1960 era. Measuring 35" in length and weighing 33 ounces, both supported as being ordered specifically by Snider referenced label period. The bat shows phenomenal game use, with dozens of ball mark scattered on all surfaces of the bat barrel, which is in a consistent pattern of the free swinging Snider. Layered on top of the ball marks are signs of deeply seated stitch marks. With respect to game use, this bat measures at the top of the food chain. As we know, Snider was a proponent of taping his handle with a criss cross tape pattern. Although the tape has dried and fallen away, the visible marks are clearly seen. A 5" handle crack was the cause of this bats retirement. Final Grade (MEARS A9): A base grade of 5 points was assigned for bat matching Snider's personal H&B bat records, 3 points for optimal game use, 2 points for player traits (criss cross handle tape pattern/use visible), minus 1 point for handle crack/missing tape. When presented the bat, Snider signed it, "55 Champs, Brooklyn Dodgers, Duke Snider, My game used bat, 42 HRs, .305 batting average".
