Offered is a professional model Johnny Mize game used H&B Louisville Slugger dating to the slugger's tenure with the New York Giants between 19447 & 1948. The 125 centerbrand was standard Louisville Slugger issue from 1943-49. A review of Johnny Mize's H&B personal bat records verify that he ordered the H117 in this length during 1947 & 1948. The model H117 is stamped on the knob of the bat. Mize was under contract with Louisville Slugger, signing his contract on September 22nd, 1933. The barrel features a signature stamping, an exact facsimile of his signature.
Bat currently measures 35", weighs 33 ounces and shows signs of heavy use with ball marks, stitch marks and some staining to the barrel's end. Handle remains uncracked.
Final Grade: MEARS A7. 5 base points are assigned for bat matching factory records in 1947 & 1948. 3 points assigned for bat having heavy game use, with visible signs of ball and stitch marks. There is a 8" dark area on the reverse of barrel, and the price of $2.00 written on the knob, which was the combined cause of 1 point deduction.
Mize was very productive during the life of this bat. Mize led the league both years in homeruns, 1947 & 1948 during the span the bat was issued to be used by Mize. A very rare bat in this grade. (62P0059)
