Offered is a 1944-1945 Brooklyn Dodgers Road jersey worn by Morrie Aderholt. Year dating is based on the fact that Aderholt only played for Brooklyn these two seasons and was issued #19 on both occasions. The absence of Stars and Stripes patch is not a detractor because dated period images confirm Dodger jerseys can be found without them. These include Corbis # BE042430 from June 13th 1944, Corbis # U1013932INP from March 15th 1945, and an image of Dixie Walker from page 13 of the August 10th 1945 edition of the Brooklyn Eagle. The manufacturer is Wilson and they are a known supplier of Brooklyn Dodger’s jerseys from this period. The Wilson manufacturer’s tag is the type that can be found spanning the period of 1943-1954 so this is consistent with respect to ball club, era, and dates coinciding with player/year attribution. For jersey style collectors, having a flannel with that blue script Brooklyn adorning the chest is a must and this is fine example to be sure. The jersey grades out very high, losing only ½ point for a single button that has been replaced. Unlike the Bums moniker, “Wait till next year,” if you wait, you may be waiting some time as these styles tend to stay in collections for a while after they come to auction. MEARS A9.5 (minus 1/2 for replaced button).
