This is a 1932-35/40 Tony Chick Cuccinello H&B Louisville Slugger Professional Model Game Used Bat. This bat dates to the 1934-44 period based on the Louisville Slugger centerbrand period. This pre-model number bat currently weighs 32.8 ounces and measures in at 34 inches in length.
This bat exhibits heavy use with ball marks present primarily along the top of the barrel with deadwood and a 4" section of wood missing. Several cleat marks are visible along the end of the barrel. The number 5 has been completely etched into the knob of the bat, and the letter "S" and number "1" have had their outlines etched into the knob. Cuccinello wore jersey number 5 for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1932-35 and the Boston Bees in 1940.
Cuccinello played 15 seasons in the big leagues for a total of six teams and saw some of his best seasons with the Dodgers and Bes
This bat grades out at the MEARS A7.5 grade with five points for the base grade, three points for heavy use, a half point for the etched jersey number in the knob, and a one point deduction for the deadwood/missing wood on the back of the barrel. To date, this is the only Cuccinello bat that MEARS has ever examined.
