Physical characteristics: Bat is a signature contract gamer whose centerbrand dates from the 1921-30 era. Bat measures 34 5/8” and weighs 35 oz. The bat was returned to the H&B factory at one time as evidenced by the area that shows signs it once had sidewriting but in no longer readable. As for use, the bat shows tremendous ball and lace marks most of which is on top and back of barrel. There is a 6” handle crack that was repaired with several vintage nails at the time which enabled the bat to be shipped back. It appears that if the nails were removed, the bat would probably come in half but it is pretty tight now and is just as it was went sent back. In addition to the deep ball marks, the bat has cleat marks about the barrel. Factory stamps and finish are perfect and an expert restoration of the handle crack would render you a killer Roush gamer. Bat grades a base point 5 with 3 points for use and -2 due to crack and repair which again, could easily be upgraded. Currently an A6. History: With the Reds from 1917 to 1926, Roush never batted below .321 and was an instrumental part of the team's World Series championship in 1919. He won the batting title in 1917 and 1919. His best career year in batting average was 1921, when he batted .352. He also led the leagues in Slugging average (.455) in 1918, in Doubles (41) in 1923, and in Triples (21) in 1924. He was renowned as having the best arm of any outfielder in his era. He held out most of the 1922 season over a salary dispute . He played for the New York Giants again from 1927 until 1929 and rejoined the Cincinnati Reds for a single season in 1931 before retiring. He sat out the 1930 season over a salary dispute. LOA MEARS
