Offered for sale is one of less than 4 period Chicago Black Sox player model bats to ever surface. The block letter Chic Gandl (sp) bat measures 31" (barrel end cut down) and weighs 32.5 oz. The bat shows heavy game with 6" of vintage black tape on the handle. Now for the bad part, the bat is very, very rough. The center brand is lightly stamped but readable while the player name on barrel is stronger and totally readable. There has been shellac added and plaster of paris has been used to fill in sections of the back of the barrel and knob. In addition, there are numerous areas of grain separation and gouges. While not the prettiest bat we have ever seen, it still is a game used bat of one of the most infamous ballplayers of all time. In a high grade, this bat would sell in the 40K range so if you are looking for an affordable alternative, if there even was one, this bat will fill the bill. We have graded the bat simply as authentic since the amount of flaws would preclude an actual grade.
