A rookie in 1964, Dave Wilcox was an often overlooked but nevertheless fierce linebacker. Playing his entire career with the San Francisco 49ers, his hard-nosed play was rewarded with induction in the football Hall of Fame.
The style of the jersey in conjunction with the dating of the Wilson manufacturers tag (1958-66) dates this jersey to the 1964-66 era.
Number “64” is sewn to the front, back and sleeves in red tackle twill. Sleeves also feature the 49ers signature three stripe design, with some curling at the end of the sleeves.
Game use is heavy, with visible pounding, shredding, and overall heavy wear to both the body shell and numerals. Appropriate for a hard hitting linebacker, the both shoulders show heavy signs of fabric compressions and abrasions. The stitching around the crew neck has popped out in several places, all consistent with game use. Both shoulders show impact marks (direct color has transferred) and the right shoulder has a small hole and a heavy vintage team repair. The seams along the shoulder yoke areas have also popped.
The numbers on the back also show signs of stress and compression, and the reverse “4” has popped loose.
The front numerals have also torn in several places, and the anchor stitching has come loose in many areas.
Finally, both sleeves numerals appear shredded from use. Although both fully intact and complete, both have broken loose at points and curled up due to breaking loose from their stitching, a result of leading with your shoulder pads tackling.
The jersey was originally owned by Dave Wilcox and a letter of authenticity attests to that fact.
