If not for a career-ending shoulder injury, Leroy Butler would probably have his bust on display for all at Canton in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Butler was drafted during the team's darkest of moments but was a key part in the team's turnaround. The Packers secondary was built around Butler's uncanny ability to blitz and create havoc for the opposition.
This very helmet was worn by Butler during his rookie season of 1990. We are able to determine that because it lacks the NFL shield sticker, adopted by all teams in 1991. Decent use is shown with scratches and contact marks throughout.
The following appear inside: AF2 Riddell padding and athletic tag to the left ear hole. The reverse includes these important identifiers: American flag sticker (from our involvement in Gulf War), size "7 3/8" sticker, "36" green dymo label and white warning sticker. Butler signed the reverse in black felt tip.
Overall, a fabulous Butler representation from his earliest of days in Titletown. This truly belongs in the Packer Hall of Fame.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection.
