A truly classic design combining the elegance of the flat lines with the contrasting materials of the leather and moleskin.
The top crown piece is single piece of brown leather which has 38 vent holes and a rolled edge which is attached with two rows of stitching to the upper portion of the mole skin sides.
The horizontal side panels are formed by a tuck and roll design created by three rows of stitching. Two ear pieces (with factory opening with leather highlights) are attached which are outlined with a dark tan canvas border, which matches the color of the leather top. Two identical brown leather chin strap housing adorn the bottom of the ear flaps. A pronounced neck piece hangs down the back.
One of the more unique design features which I have encountered on competitors helmets is the two brown leather 3 holes strips on the back, again providing ventilation.
The interior has a leather front head piece, with wool lining finishing out the inside. A period Spalding tag is sewn on the inside.
The owner, “Gotch Koch” added his name to the front, giving the helmet character and ownership. Stunning examples. LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS Auctions
