Brian Cushing comes from a long line of successful USC linebackers. Some colleges are just known to breed a certain position. For the Trojans, it seems like every year produces another NFL worthy linebacker.
In 2009, Brian Cushing and Clay Mathews were two prominent USC players who rose to the NFL ranks. This size "46" jersey was worn by Cushing during his initial stages at the NFL level. A few hit scrapes are still apparent on the Cadora shoulders. There are a few sparse green facemask marks on the left midnight navy shoulder striping from NFL contact and on the left sleeve "6" number. Our research has revealed Houston played the Jets Sept. 13, 2009 in Cushing's first game. The green facemask remnants lead us to believe the jersey was worn in Cushing's NFL contest.
The two-color tackle twill numbers have softened a bit. "CUSHING" is expressed on a nameplate in single-color midnight blue tackle twill with light fraying. The tail is elasticized above the tag line and the sleeve ends are linemen cut. Collar tagging includes "05-46" and "I" (cut) tags. It is common practice for teams to carry jerseys from year to year and very conceivable that a jersey tagged for use in 2005 was carried over subsequent seasons.
Cushing sealed the deal with a signature on back. We have included a Getty Image photo (90870143) which shows the young linebacker embracing former college teammate Mark Sanchez following the Texans-Jets tilt.
Overall, a historic jersey from Cushing's first taste of the NFL.
