We have all heard the old expression, "He knocked the cover off the ball", well, this is an actual example. On May 5th, 1989, Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Glenn Braggs hit this ball for a homerun (5th of the season) in the 4th inning off Kansas City Royals pitcher Floyd Bannister. The ball traveled 450 feet. When recovered, it was noted that the cover had been knocked off the ball. The rare feat caught the attention of the Brewers front office, and this ball was sent to the American League offices for examination. It was returned to the team where it was gifted to Bernie Rupp, the inspiration for mascot Bernie Brewer and a team employee. Official Bobby Brown American League baseball which was notated by Brewer's brass, "5/5/89 (date), 9/36 (meaning unsure, but might be section and seat), 450 ft, (distance), G.B. (Glenn Braggs). Certainly one of the hobby's most unique Home Run baseballs.
