With a heavy heart we offer this Andre Waters game worn helmet. While football helmets have come a long way since the leather headgear worn in the game's infancy, this helmet was worn by Waters during his battles with receivers and anyone else who entered his territory. Waters suffered numerous concussions during his career and tragically committed suicide in 2006. Many point to the inordinate number of head injuries endured as the cause of severe brain damage.
Waters buckled up this helmet during his remarkable career. Each of the facemask clips are from 1986. Heavy gouges are apparent on the green shell. Some bubbling is visible on the Eagles side decals. The reverse includes an undecipherable size tag, transparent warning label and "Waters 20" dymo label. The green dymo label is apropos for Eagles game used during the 1980s. The inside features these highlights: gel-filled AF2 padding, size "7" sticker and leather cushion reinforcement pad.
Waters endorsed a signature on the right side decal.
Gone, but certainly never forgotten, is Andre Waters. The man who transformed himself from an undrafted free agent into an All-Pro epitomized the city he starred in.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection. Detailed LOA’s personally signed by Scott Waters will be included with each item from his collection. Letters of authenticity: Scott Waters & MEARS / Troy Kinunen
