Ezra Johnson may be best known for eating a hot dog on the sideline during a preseason blowout but another thing is certain about the Packer Hall of Famer - he was one of the NFL's best linemen of his time.
The Pro Bowl quarterback killer played before the NFL counted sacks. But if they did, Johnson would have been atop the standings for the majority of his Packer career.
This Ezra Johnson game used helmet saw plenty of trench warfare during its existence. Numerous gouges are present on the plastic shell. White and blue marks (Lions) are also visible on front. We have inspected the inside and it appears as this helmet was created in 1985, so Johnson most likely used it between'85-87.
THe inside has these identifiers: "85" written (most likely year reference), size "7 3/8" sticker, WD1 Riddell padding and manufacturer date stamp.
The back includes: "90" green dymo label, size sticker, Riddell back bumper and heavily worn warning sticker. Johnson signed the back in black felt tip.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection. Detailed LOA’s personally signed by Scott Waters will be included with each item from his collection. Letters of authenticity: Scott Waters & MEARS / Troy Kinunen
