Lynn Dickey was way ahead of his time. When Dickey starred at Lambeau Field, the Packers offense was second to none, well Air Coryell supporters may want to have something to say about it.
Dickey threw to future Hall of Famer James Lofton and speedy John Jefferson which surely caused matchup problems for the opposition.
When Dickey was chewing up real estate at a near record level, he was wearing this very Riddell helmet. Scott Waters secured this very helmet from the Packers helmet supplier in the early '80s. This was before the Packers tent sale and NFL Auctions were part of the game used memorabilia discussion.
Saddled with WD1 padding on the inside, this helmet features a facemask unique to Dickey during his All Pro days. A Riddell identifier is placed on front and green/white/green striping races down the center. Packer decals are affixed on the sides. Some hit scrapes are still apparent from NFL contact. We have checked Getty Images and photo (73068143) matches the facemask and hookups as well. We are not saying it is photo match but rather a style match. A size "7 5/8" sticker is affixed on the inner crown. "12" is dymo labeled on the back. Dickey signed the reverse in black felt tip as well. The inside includes a "84" stamp which dates this to the latter portion of Dickey's career in Green Bay.
Overall, the finest Dickey helmet offered in auction.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection. Detailed LOA’s personally signed by Scott Waters will be included with each item from his collection. Letters of authenticity: Scott Waters & MEARS / Troy Kinunen
