Offered is a San Francisco 49ers home jersey dating to circa 1983-85. Russell Athletic size 46 tag sewn to tail while number 80 is screened to the front, back and sleeves of the red mesh jersey along with a "Rice" nameplate sewn to the reverse.
Examination of the nameplate reveals that the name "Wilson" is screened to the opposite side with the outline of at least one additional removed name also visible. This leads us to believe this jersey was originally issued to Eason Ramson in 1983 and was carried over for extended use in subsequent seasons up to the preseason prior to the 1985 campaign, making this quite possibly one of the earliest jerseys issued to Rice by the 49ers.
Jersey is excluded from on field wear by Jerry Rice in 1985 or subsequent seasons due to the fact that the tip of the v-neck extends below the front seam of the jersey. Previously examined 49ers examples from 1985-88 are constructed in a fashion such that the tip of the v-neck ends above the front seam. Heavy wear shown. (85M0422)
