Doug Buffone was the final man in the George Halas link. It was Buffone who was the last player to play in the NFL during the Papa Bear era.
The linebacker lasted 15 years on the gridiron and has been wildly successful off the field as well. The popular radio host/entrepreneur wore this mesh pullover during the final stages of his career - 1977-79.
The offered garment shows light use as Buffone wasn't a full-time player late in his career. Minor surface degradation is visible on the front "5" numeral. Diamond shaped mesh inserts are visible under both arms. Heavy vinyl stripes accentuate sleeves. Sewn in the tail is a Wilson size label (1974-77 period). The nameplate is original and unaltered. The jersey has been graded a perfect grade of A10.
Overall one of the only known mesh exemplars of the popular Bears linebacker. Butkus, Urlacher, Singletary and Buffone, all names sure to stir up good memories of true Bears fans.
