The New York Jets have a feverish fan base who collects their game worn wares like few others. This vintage game used helmet should send a few shock waves through Jets Nation.
Circa 1973 is this Jets game used headgear, attributed to cornerback Rich Sowells. What makes this gamer stand out are the football shaped decals on the sides. According to a helmet source, the decal was unique to the Jets as this is the early style decal with notches in the front rear of the football decal.
Numerous hit marks and scratches are visible on the white shell. All four brittle facemask clips are still attached and a red dot is evident on the facemask as well. The manufacturer's code lists this as being made in 1973. Gel-filled padding is captured on the inside. Both original jaw pads are in-place as well. "46" is markered on the left ear hole in black marker.
