San Diego has always been on the cutting edge uniform-wise. Those powder blue jerseys of the 1960s are among the most popular in gridiron history.
And the 1970s introduced midnight navy jerseys and kept lightning bolts incorporated into their helmets.
This navy blue shell includes lightning bolt decals on the sides and has numerous scratches from NFL conflicts. Suspension padding meets gel-filled on the inside as plastic gel-filled padding is encircled around the inside.
"45" is written on the right inner ear hold and the clock wheel reveals this was manufactured in 1973. As all NFL teams did, the Chargers carried over equipment from year to year. Reggie Berry wore the number from 1972-74 while Hal Stringert assumed it from 1975-80.
The left leather jaw pad is not present.
