During the early 1970s, the Jets switch from durene to a mesh jersey body shell. Supplied by Champion (L), both the manufacturer and size is correct for what the Jets wore during the era. Number 12 is written in faded black marker on the Champion tag.
The nameplate “NAMATH” appears in applique directly onto the jersey back, and is consistent with other examples of both Namath and the Jets that have entered the hobby.
The jersey has a crotch piece which appears to have been factory sewn. The wear on the crotch piece is consistent with degree of wear/discoloration as the body shell.
Jersey exhibits moderate wear, especially in the area of the neck.
An image accompanies this lot showing Namath wearing a jersey without the sleeve numbering. The images show Namath with cut sleeves, this one has full sleeves. Final Grade: 10 points were assigned after jersey was evaluated for proper manufacturing, sizing, numbering, lettering, etc. 2 points were subtracted for sleeves not consistent with available images. Final Grade: MEARS A8.
