With Gale Sayers career in jeopardy, the Chicago Bears turned to local product Cyril Pinder in 1971. Pinder was the Eagles leading rusher in 1970 with 657 yards and two trips into the end zone.
Pinder, who starred for the University of Illinois, lasted two years in the Windy City, and averaged a remarkable 4.9 yards per carry in 1971 and 3.7 yard average the following year.
When Pinder was shouldering the rushing load, he donned this size "X-Large" Wilson-made jersey. The mesh pullover has heat pressed numbers and sleeve striping. "PINDER" is sewn in single-color midnight navy tackle twill to a nameplate on back. The side numbers have cracked from use. At least one minor team repair is visible (left shoulder). The square square block numbers featured on this jersey are a rare find.
Available images show the Bears switched to mesh during the 1972 season, thus aiding in the dating of this first year style.
A Wilson "X-Large" tag is sewn in the tail. This style of Wilson tag was used in the 1960s through '73. The jersey has rightfully earned its grade of MEARS A10.
