The San Diego Chargers were well ahead of the curve with their assortment of colors. The powder blues of the 1960s gave way to mesh, but the team always kept those unmistakable lightning bolts into their scheme.
This helmet was used in the early '70s by a Charger. "KEARNEY 46" is written on the inner right ear hole in black marker. According to one helmet source, this was likely used as a white late '60s/early '70s bolt style lid before being repainted and used in post '73 style. Our source believes this helmet was used during the first year after the style change - 1974.
Numerous marks are still visible on the navy shell. Lightning bolt decals accentuate the sides. Both original leather jaw pads are firmly in-place. All of the facemask clips are still intact.
The suspension padding is still affixed on the inside.
From the late stages of suspension helmets is this Chargers gamers. This was when helmets were used year after year.
