Although his best years were behind him, the 38 year old Jimmie Foxx finished up his final
major league season with the Philadelphia Phillies. Although no longer hitting with the fierceness of the "Beast", Foxx still managed to hit 7 home runs in his final season.
Examination of this bat reveals H&B manufactured this bat during the 1943-49 era. Foxx's personal H&B bat records reveal he finished his career ordering the F2 model. This bat was stamped as the F3 model, and not part of his personal bat records.
Measuring 35" in length and weighing 35 ounces, this Jimmie Foxx signature model is consistent with his personal model F2, with just a slight modification of the bat's design. Inspection of the Philadelphia Phillies bat records show that on 4-24-45 a Jimmie Foxx model bat was sent to the team. No length, weight or model was listed. Also, in 1946, the Boston Red Sox requested a Jimmie Foxx bat to be sent to the team. Our research did not reveal any other orders sent to Foxx after the above referenced orders during the 1943-49 time span.
The bat exhibits heavy game use, medium ball marks, and scattered cleat marks.
Final Grade MEARS A7: 5 points base grade for bat being consistent with team index records/player specs, 3 points for heavy game use, minus 1/2 point for chipping to players name, minus 1/2 point for drying to end.
Although not factory recorded in Foxx's personal records, and only mentioned by name only in the team index records, this bat still contains the Foxx's ordered length and weight of bats preferred during is fabled career. The signature model club may very well be one of the last bats ordered for Foxx as an aging player, although not supported by conclusive factory records.
