Pittsburgh Pirates manager Pie Traynor is flanked here by his coaches Jewel Ens and Honus Wagner shortly before leading his 1938 team against the New York Yankees in the World Series. The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
