MEARS is very excited to offer what we believe to be the first example to enter the hobby!
Discovered at a Milwaukee, WI estate sale, the recent find is:
1934 circa Goudey Knot Hole League of America Special Baseball Premium w/ Original The Goudey Gum Co. Bag
After speaking with several elite hobby collectors, it was unanimous among the people that MEARS spoke with that they could never recall this ball entering the hobby. It is our belief this is a unique, 1:1 item.
Research found mention of this premium baseball as part of the design of the 1934 cardboard advertising sign featuring Lou Gehrig. The sign (not included, used for reference only) read, “FREE! Baseball Premiums with Big League Gum Wrappers”. The advertisement specifically noted a free baseball with 100 wrappers.
The baseball is in near mint condition with perfect ink stamping. Printed on the baseball is, “Knot Hole League of America and Knot Hole Special, 9 in 5 oz, Horsehide Cover”. The original presentation bag is also included which is printed, ““From the Goudey Gum Co., 52 Everett St, Allston Station, Boston MASS.”
