Boxing has had many fights dubbed as showstoppers but the first "Fight of the Century" occurred when Jack Johnson took on hard hitting Jim Jeffries. The racially fueled match pitted the dominating Johnson against wily veteran Jeffries. Johnson proved too much for the aging Jeffries as the latter's corner threw in the towel before the 15th round.

From that fight is this ashtray. "World Championship Jeffries vs. Johnson July 4, 1910 Emeryville, Cal. Purse 101,000" is embossed around the perimeter. The fight location was eventually changed to Reno, NV. The combatants are carefully etched in the squared circle. The arts and crafts style offering has hand hammered copper. A beautiful patina is showcased on the heavyweight relic. Measures 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
