Offered is a collection of three World War II medals plus a Purple Heart certificate issued to Sylvester Kennedy reading as follows...
"The United States of America to all who shall see these presents, greeting: This is to certify that the President of the United States of America pursuant to authority vested in him by Congress has awarded the Purple Heart established by General George Washington at Newburgh, New York, August 7, 1782 to Private Sylvester Kennedy AS No. 34599613 for military merit and for wounds received in action resulting in his death July 7, 1944. Given under my hand in the city of Washington this 19th day of September 1944. (signed) Major General The Adjutant General (signed) Secretary of War."
"For Military Merit" is embossed on the reverse of the Purple Heart though no name is engraved. (74B0484)
