Born Edward Trowbridge, Collins May 2nd 1887-March 25th, 1951) in Millerton, NY. Collins stood 5’9” and weighted 165 pounds and played 2nd base for the Philadelphia Athletics and the Chicago White Sox. Collins became just the sixth person to join the 3,000 hit club – and the last for the next 17 seasons. His 47 career home runs are the fewest of anyone in it. Collins is the only non-Yankee to win five or more World Series titles with the same club as a player.

Nicknamed “Cocky”, Collins played playing for the White Sox, was a member of the 1917 World Champion team and the infamous 1919 Black Sox. This bat broadly dates to the 1916-1921 era, and would have been available for Collins to use for both the 1917 and 1919 World Series. During that period, Collins compiled the following stats, possibly using this bat for parts of that stretch:

1916, 168 hits, 17 HR’s, (career high)

1917, 163 hits, 12 HR’s (World Series Champions)

1918, 91 hits, 2 HR’s

1919, 125 hits, 4 HR’s (Black Sox)

1920, 224 hits, 3 HR’s (career high)

The bat is a professional signature model Eddie Collins H&B Louisville Slugger dating to his tenure with the Chicago White Sox circa 1916-21. Bat currently measures 36", weighs 35 ounces and shows heavy use with ball marks, stitch marks, grain swelling, tape residue, a repaired handle crack and a 1/2" deep indentation, possibly large cleat mark, between the center brand & barrel stampings. Two very small letters are factory stamped into both the knob and barrel, not initials, there purpose not known. Fresh to the hobby example of a very rare bat. MEARS A8.
