Taken from us too soon, Kirby Puckett was a fan favorite loved by all baseball aficionados. This lot offers a small memento of this Hall of Fame player.
For consideration:
1988 Kirby Puckett Minnesota Twins Road Game Worn Jersey
Manufactured by Rawlings, the collar exhibits the proper 1988 style tag, with the “Set 1, 1988” flag tag attached to the right edge. Size 44 appears on the manufacturers tag. Jersey is consistent with respect to fabric, tagging, and manufacture when compared to the 1988 Twins Renick jersey in the MEARS database. Button down with six original grey buttons. A Velcro patch is found between the second and third button.
The Minnesota Twins round patch is found on the left sleeve.
“PUCKETT” is sewn with block lettering onto a reverse nameplate. Jersey exhibits moderate but distinguishable game wear.
Regarding the size 44, actual measurements, 24” chest, 32 torso, are consistent with a size 46/48 jersey, which is documented as being worn by Puckett during the era. Also, the original owner sent a request to the Twins (and received back a response!) regarding the size 44. The original letter stated,
“Dear Paul,
Per your request for additional information regarding Kirby Puckett jerseys, we are carefully reviewed our equipment files.
Jim discovered that a couple of size 44 road jerseys were received from Rawlings at the beginning of Kirby’s 1988 season. Apparently they were too snug, because records also indicate orders for size 48 and size 48 for the balance of the year.
I hope this information clears up your questions on this matter.
Sincerely,
(signed)
Jerry Bell
President”
It is in the opinion of MEARS that this jersey, size 44 is acceptable for this particular 1988 jersey due to the actual measurements and the documented size 44 order by the team.
Based on or examination, MEARS has deemed this jersey to be authentic and consistent with all manufacturing characteristics expected to be found on a game worn Puckett jersey. LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS
