Before Vince Lombardi came to Green Bay, the little city that could wallowed in mediocrity. And that is a nice way of saying it.
Following the success of Lombardi's Packers, the NFL would make make its climb up the sports scene. This helmet was worn in the late '60s or early '70s by an unknown player. There is no number stenciled on back, a common practice by the equipment staff. Decent use is shown on the helmet with contact marks and green helmet marks on the right side decal. Moderate cracking is present on the yellow paint.
The inside includes Riddell's suspension padding, Riddell manufacturer's sticker, leather jaw pads and "591" written in black marker.
The facemask clips have broken and a facemask will attend. Fuzzy Thurston signed the shell in black marker.
Employed by the Green Bay Packers from 1984-2000, Scott Waters had on field access for each game, and mingled along the sidelines with the players. Several candid photos document his presence on the field. This lot originated directly from the Scott Waters collection. Detailed LOA’s personally signed by Scott Waters will be included with each item from his collection. Letters of authenticity: Scott Waters & MEARS / Troy Kinunen
