Casey Stengel is pictured here asking Mickey Mantle, who was injured with a pulled thigh muscle, if he'll be ready to play for the New York Yankees in that day's World Series game against the Brooklyn Dodgers. Measures 7" x 8.5". "Casey Stengel Mickey Mantle" handwritten on reverse with affixed cutline and International News Photo & Oct 3 1955 stamps. Boston Herald Archives Hologram. (L0170)

The original Boston Herald was founded in 1846 by a group of Boston printers jointly under the name of John A. French & Company. The paper was published as a single two-sided sheet, selling for one cent. This is an original photo, in many cases a Type 1 printed at the time of the event. File copies or type 2 photos are also found, and can be distinguished by the markings on the reverse.
