My how football headgear has evolved. When the game was in its infancy, leather helmets were commonplace on the gridiron.
The 1950s and '60s featured suspension helmets with minimal padding featured. The words gel-filled and sustainable padding became popular in the 1980s and '90s. Today concussion resistant helmets are used by NFL players.
This size "7 1/8" helmet, no player indicated, was used in the early '70s when the Bears began using Riddell helmets. A Bears team single-color white "C" decal is affixed on both sides.
A two-bar facemask is captured on front. The inside includes 12-point suspension and a 1970s snubber. The leather jaw pads are no longer present.
