Designed to give lineman more protection, this Goldsmith HN9 helmet is the only example of this color scheme and construction examined by MEARS. The top crown of the helmet is based on the traditional Goldsmith helmet, which is a combination of eight black leather straps which cover the head. The front of the helmet is factory modified, with two arches cut which have been given additional padding for protection.
A factory cut and sewn face piece is attached to the front which protects the head, eyes, and nose. With the attachment of the face piece, the helmet now has the large “Bug Eyes” effect. This effect is also magnified by the eye brown padding
The interior has an 8 point elastic suspension system. Size 7 3/8 is stamped on the suspension pad. To identify the manufacturer, “GOLDSMITH HN9 is clearly stamped on the reverse.
A very rare and high grade example of an extremely rare and desirable executioner’s helmet, possibly the only surviving example of this model. LOA Troy R. Kinunen / MEARS Auctions
